BoE’s Mann Warns UK Inflation Could Become Further Entrenched in Pay Deals

Bank of England policymaker Catherine Mann said on 6 October that inflation above the Bank’s 2% target had become embedded in Britain. Speaking at a TS Lombard conference, she warned that inflation approaching 4% around the turn of the year could influence annual wage negotiations and entrench price pressures further. Her comments present a policymaker’s assessment of inflation risk, rather than a new interest-rate decision. The distinction matters for traders assessing how wage settlements could shape the UK monetary-policy outlook.

Thai September Inflation Rises to 2.82%, Below Forecast

Thailand’s annual headline inflation rose to 2.82% in September from 2.53% in August, driven by fuel and food prices, the Commerce Ministry reported on 6 October. The reading was below the 3.06% forecast in a Reuters poll and remained within the central bank’s 1%–3% target range. Core inflation was 1.50%. Officials expect further headline price pressure in the fourth quarter, while the Bank of Thailand’s next policy meeting is scheduled for 28 October.

ECB's Lane Says Energy-Shock Demand Destruction May Limit Required Rate Tightening

European Central Bank Chief Economist Philip Lane said the latest energy-price surge creates both upside inflation risks and downside growth risks, with weaker demand potentially limiting how much monetary policy needs to tighten. Lane said underlying inflation indicators do not yet show a persistent upward shift in medium-term inflation and described the appropriate policy approach as a measured 'middle path'. Higher energy costs can suppress household and business demand even as they lift headline prices, complicating the ECB's response after two rate increases during the summer.

Gold and Silver Attempt Rebound as Higher Oil, Yields and Fed Rate Expectations Keep Pressure On

Gold and silver remained under pressure after Monday’s sharp decline, although a modest rebound offered some relief. Higher oil prices, elevated Treasury yields and expectations for tighter Federal Reserve policy remain the main factors in focus for precious-metals markets. The recovery should be treated as an observed market move rather than evidence that the earlier pressure has ended. Traders are watching whether the rebound can hold as interest-rate expectations, bond yields and energy-driven inflation concerns continue to shape the outlook.

Fed's Collins Backs Rate Hike as Inflation Risks Increase

Boston Fed President Susan Collins said she supported last week's 25-basis-point rate increase because she now sees a greater chance that inflation remains notably above 2%. She said a stronger labor market allows policy to focus on restoring price stability and that a somewhat more restrictive federal-funds rate should help return inflation durably to target. Collins, who is not an FOMC voter this year, did not say whether she favors another increase. The Fed's target range is 3.75%-4.00%.
