Indonesian Rupiah Breaks 18,000 per Dollar as U.S. Yields and Oil Rise
Indonesia’s rupiah weakened through 18,000 per U.S. dollar on September 29 for the first time since early August, as elevated U.S. Treasury yields and higher oil prices supported the dollar and pressured emerging-market currencies. Reuters reported that Bank Indonesia’s bond-buying policy was also cited by an economist as a factor affecting the currency adjustment. The move gives Piplix a distinct Southeast Asian FX catalyst separate from its existing dollar, yuan, yen and South Korean won coverage.
