Bank of Japan policymakers discussed the case for further interest-rate increases and, in some views, a faster pace of tightening at their September meeting, according to the Summary of Opinions released on October 1. The BOJ had raised its policy rate to 1.25% at that meeting. One opinion said the Bank may need to accelerate rate hikes if prices deviate upward, while other views stressed caution over domestic demand and the cumulative effects of past tightening. The release adds fresh guidance for yen and Japanese-rate markets.
